Since I started commuting by public transportation again, I've had a running cold for the last month. It sucks. But then again, I'd hate to find out just how much snot is smeared over the handles and railings...
I'm not deathly ill or anything, but I obviously do not have the self discipline not to touch my eyes or nose before smearing them in jelled alcohol. I guess I could let things take their course, until I catch up on all the cold strains I missed by riding in a car back and forth to Boston, but I rather just skip the sniffles altogether.
I do have an orange every morning as part of my breakfast, but the boost in Vitamin C isn't enough. It has been recommended to me to take Black Elderberry extract. I'll give it a shot, and let you know how it works out.
I also have been worried about the lack of fatty acids in my diet, so I'm going to start taking some fish oil caplets... the problem is I HATE fish, and fish burps can be an issue with these caplets. I have a friend that has tried 25+ brands and have suggested one for me to try. Once again, if it's good I will let you guys know.
The dollar looks like it's going to weaken some in the next week, so be sure to load up on oil and fuel before the prices jump.

Do get fish oils in your diet. They are good for a lot of things and especially for the brain. My wife used to take the capsules because she hated the burps, but when I showed here that the worst, most rancid fish oils go into the capsules she stopped and now takes cod liver oil like I do. Always get the freshest fish oil you can get. Oils are suppose to still be good for two years, but that is a lie. One year is a maximum, and fresher is always better. If you eat something after taking the oil you should not be bothered by burps.
I second the Elderberry reccomendation (I think it can be bought as "Sambucol" or something like that) I used it all the time when the kids were young and it works well to kick the cold out of you.
I take fish oil too, and the dr recommended extra vitamin D. I haven't had the fish burps...that would be nasty as I hate fish too.
Good luck!
just had some prev. frozen swordfish, on sale at stop and shop. yummy. srsly tho, I take the echinecia and royal jelly and havnt been sick all winter, also recently been taking walmart brand fish oil and vit d caps, no problem with the burps. and I got the pneumonia, flu and swine shots and still here to tell about it :)
OFPCorpsman
I would recommend the echinecia with golden seal, that helps with allergies. They sell a fish oil that is coated and does not give me the burps, in fact I can taste no fish at all and I like fish.
